K-9 Training Center's Mission is to provide structure and guidance for the canine companion and it's family. We believe there are no bad dogs, only confused and untrained owners. Through proper training, we are strengthening the bonds between a dog and it's family members.
The K-9 Training Center was purchased from it's original owner in November 2017 by Steve & Mary Ann Shaffer. We both currently have other full-time jobs in addition to managing the K-9 Training Center. Steve is a Captain with the Tupelo Fire Department and plans on retiring from that position in November 2020 after having served 20 years. Mary Ann works as a critical care transport nurse with NMMC CareFlight helicopter service where she has worked for the past 21 years.
We have a true passion for dogs and have many deep rooted ties to the First Responder community so the K-9 Training Center purchase seemed like a dream come true for the two of us. In the short span of two years, we have added a full-time groomer and have been able to donate dogs plus the obedience training to veterans suffering from PTSD at no cost to the veteran. We hope to continue to provide veterans a companion to improve their everyday way of life and prevent suicides. We have teamed up with an organization that is a non-profit organization that works diligently to decrease the veteran suicide rate in our country. It is veteran run and veteran operated. You can read more about it on our through the Comfort Dogs tab at the top of this page.
